High Praise for our own Donna Parker!

As we enter the month of December, I wanted to recognize one of our biggest champions from the recent election season. Every two years, the election provides REALTORS® an opportunity to make a personal impact on the state legislature. The hard work of our most active volunteer helped us mobilize REALTORS and voters, and the Alliance would like to officially thank her for her incredible work. That volunteer was Donna P. Parker, member of the Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS®.

Donna wins the title of Most Active Volunteer by making the most phone calls to her fellow REALTORS on behalf of the Homeowners Alliance and REALTOR issues. Donna attended both of our scheduled phone banks in Raleigh during the lead up to Election Day, reminding REALTORS to vote and to remember the real estate industry when heading to the voting booth. “It was a great experience,” Donna said. “This is a time of year where we get to make a unique impact on the General Assembly.” For her efforts, we’re excited to award Donna with our Grand Prize of $500.

We’d also like to give an Honorable Mention to Mark Parker (Member, Raleigh Regional Association of REALTORS®) for his work at the phone bank – Mark appeared at both of Raleigh’s phone banks as well, and devoted plenty of time and energy to supporting the Alliance.

As we approach the new year, we’ll let you know about opportunities for homeowners to engage in outreach and advocacy. Thank you for all you do – we can’t succeed without you!

All the best,

Mike Landes

To Frack or Not to Frack…That is the Question

We are hearing a lot about fracking these days. On one hand, we are told it’s perfectly safe and a great opportunity for jobs in N.C. On the other hand, we are being told it’s unsafe: we hear of explosions, earthquakes and groundwater contamination. This is important information for all of us, as fracking is being proposed in our area, and our clients have questions. Get the answers at this meeting. We have two of North Carolina’s most respected speakers on the topic of fracking in N.C. representing both sides of the issue.

Ms. Ouzts spearheads legislative strategy, grassroots organizing, research and public education for Environment North Carolina. She’s co-authored reports on myriad topics, from the state’s solar energy potential to its loss of open space. She’s appeared on television and in newspapers, at the NC General Assembly, in Congress, and before numerous citizens’ groups statewide to speak out against the threats to the state’s environment.

Dr. Kenneth B. Taylor is the 13th person to serve as the State Geologist of North Carolina. During the N.C. Geological Survey’s 190 years of service to the State, they have been tasked to examine, describe and map the geology, geologic hazards, and mineral resources of the State and publish these findings in NCGS reports and maps. They are required to provide unbiased, impartial and relevant technical information to all parties and be the custodian of maps, reports, rock cores, cuttings, geophysical logs, and working papers generated by the Survey or donated to the Survey.

Bring a friend, this is important for everyone.

Visitors and Guests are $5 at the door.
